Pre and Power Amplifiers Are Extremely Important

A  Home Theatre is a combination of a good television together with a sound quality system to enable you to watch a movie at home giving you the effect of watching such a movie in a theatre. A home theatre system can be further clarified as a system that is used to recreate the sound and picture of a movie theatre at your own home to enhance your movie watching experience.  Sometimes, the effect of watching a movie in your home theatre is better than watching the movie in a cinema.

This does not just apply to movies alone.  Home theatres are used for viewing normal television programmes and music listening with added clarity.  The Home Theatre can be further enhanced if you add the correct lighting and seating so that it will make the effect of a cinema felt at home to the maximum. Some people even add a pop corn machine to complete the scenario of a movie cinema and invite friends to share this experience. 

The most important component of a home theatre system is its pre amplifier and power amplifiers.  The pre-amplifier is a piece of equipment that is like the "traffic controller" for all of your input and output signals.  It determines where the sound is coming from and where it is going to.  The pre-amplifier also separates the incoming audio signals and channels it to the proper speakers.  This is where your surround decoders are located. The power amplifiers are used to take a low-level sound signal used by the pre-amplifie and enhance it so that the sound can be driven by a speaker and heard by the listener. 

The speakers in your home theatre also make up an important part the system.  For a basic stereo sound you will need just 2 speakers. For a Dolby Sound effect to be felt you will need at least 6 speakers.  Then to see the movie, without which the home theatre is blank, you will need a television. Selecting the right television is as important as the sound system that you have installed. The most appropriate TV for a home system should be a one that will display razor Sharpe images and the colours will be vivid. Such a quality can be obtained from a plasma TV, LCD or a DLP TV. The conventional Cathode Ray Tube TV is also acceptable but the effect will vary. A Plasma TV or an LCD display unit can be hanged on the wall. Further, it can be viewed from most parts of a room and you need not be right in front of the TV to view the images well. The latest technology in Digital Light Processing DLP with a High Definition ready TV will be the best provided you can spend that much of money.

Once you are ready with your Sound system and TV you will have to spend some time in selecting   a good CD players, a cassette decks, a MINI-disc players, a turntable, FM radio tuner, VCR, DVD player, Laserdisc (LD) player, cable TV facility, antenna for satellite service and gaming consoles to complete the real home theatre.  There is some more equipment that can be added to make the home theatre more sophisticated but the above will be more than sufficient to call it a good home theatre.
